Contain Nutrients and Re-Use Them When human waste is composted, the nutrients are contained in
the soil by-product without any of the pathogens or viruses (these are
destroyed by bacterial breakdown). This fertilizer can then be used on
plants or around the base of trees, rather than just leaching into the
water table. Instead of just letting these valuable nutrients wash away,
you are reusing them.
